I woke up in the middle of the night and tried hard to go back to sleep. Sleep eluded me. Finally, I crept downstairs to make myself a cup of tea. I brought it up to our bedroom. I sipped at it as I read. My eyelids began to close. My radio was on the classical station. It seemed to play me a lullaby. I drifted back into sleep.

I woke up again to the most heavenly music. With my eyes still closed, I felt the music permeate my being. It feels so magical. I raise myself up to my elbow. Ebony is fast asleep next to me, snugly wrapped in one of Peter’s dressing gowns. Picasso is curled up into a tight ball, covered in a blanket I had made many years ago, on my usurped armchair.

I look out of the window. The sky is tinged with a warm reddish-pink glow of the sun, which is just rising. I contemplate going downstairs to make another cup of tea. I opt for snugly curling back into bed for a while longer. The music envelopes me.
